Edible Landscaping Resource Lists
Information Sources and Fruit Growing Groups
NAFEX – North American Fruit Explorers www.nafex.org A wonderful group of “amateur” fruit growers – and a collection of more expertise than most universities can gather. Online at http://www.nafex.org/ . NAFEX, 1716 Apples Road, Chapin IL 62628. Website includes a great list of nursery plant sources.
CRFG – California Rare Fruit Growers, now extends far beyond CA, best source for unusual fruit info. http://www.crfg.org/. California Rare Fruit Growers, 66 Farragut Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94112-4050 Terrific magazine included in membership. It's amazing how many of these "rare" fruits we can grow right here!
Fruit Plant Sources:
Local Nurseries and Garden Centers: Check early in the season, most do not re-order plants after March/April. Ask the nursery’s tree/shrub purchaser what varieties are on order for the spring. I notice that local nurseries, like McDonalds Garden Center, are carrying more fruits, herbs and vegetables as interest in edible gardening continues to grow. If you don't see what you are hoping for, please ask! They base ordering on customer demand.
